We are pleased to provide information to the press, relating to our areas of responsibility for the OV-chipkaart. These areas are primarily security and privacy for the OV-chipkaart. We also manage OV-chipkaart Customer Services and the www.ov-chipkaart.nl website on behalf of the public transport companies. Finally, we offer cardholders the convenience of automatic reloading.
Public transport in the Netherlands refers to passenger transport that is open to the public. Anyone can use this transport service. In the Netherlands, public transport is subject to the Passenger Transport Act 2000. This act aims to improve the quality and efficiency of public transport whilst reducing prices.
Cardholders' privacy is central for OV-chipkaart and TLS. Your details are in safe hands. No personal details are stored on the chip inside your OV-chipkaart, with the exception of your date of birth on a personal OV-chipkaart. We only link personal details to card details in order to provide service to passengers. We therefore meet the requirements of the Dutch Data Protection Act.
OV-chipkaart security is the highest priority for TLS. We aim to remain one step ahead of hackers and fraudsters. That is why security is a continuous process for us, through which we constantly tighten our anti-fraud protection. We have also launched a migration project to improve the security of the chip even further. No passengers have been affected by fraud so far.
